Built in Kingston, for the Limestone City

Gonzo Construction is based here in Kingston, Ontario — a city that has been building in stone since the 1840s. We carry that standard into every driveway, deck and renovation, from Bayridge to Barriefield.

Our home turf

The city we measure everything against

Kingston earned its Limestone City name rebuilding in stone after the fire of 1840, and the standard stuck — this is a city of Queen’s University quads, Martello towers and hundred-year-old brick bungalows. Work here gets compared to what’s already standing, so it has to be straight, square and built to stay put.

This is where Gonzo Construction lives and works. Most of the projects in our gallery are Kingston driveways, patios, decks and bathrooms — from Cataraqui and Bayridge in the west end to Williamsville, Kingscourt and the downtown Sydenham district.

Local knowledge

Building on limestone, for limestone winters

Kingston sits on shallow limestone bedrock with heavy clay pockets, and it takes the full force of Lake Ontario freeze-thaw. That’s why we over-build the part you never see: full-depth excavation, compacted granular base and drainage that sends meltwater away from the house. It’s the difference between a surface that heaves in March and one that holds its line for decades.

Inside the older housing stock — wartime homes in Kingscourt, century houses downtown — nothing is plumb and nothing is standard. We renovate bathrooms and basements the way the city was built: measured twice, scribed to fit, finished properly.

Kingston FAQ

Working with Gonzo in Kingston

Which Kingston neighbourhoods do you work in?
All of them. Recent work spans Cataraqui, Bayridge, Reddendale, Portsmouth, Williamsville, Kingscourt and the downtown Sydenham district, plus the east end toward Barriefield and CFB Kingston. If you’re inside city limits — or anywhere within about 45 minutes of it — request a quote.
Do I need a permit for a driveway, deck or renovation in Kingston?
Interlock driveways and patios generally don’t need a building permit, though driveway widenings can involve city right-of-way rules. Decks above a certain height and most structural or plumbing renovations do need one. We flag what your project requires during the site visit so there are no surprises mid-build.
How soon can you start on a Kingston project?
Being based in Kingston means quotes happen fast — usually within days of your call. Start dates depend on the season and the current queue; interlock and decks book heaviest from spring through fall, while interior renovations run year-round. We’ll give you a realistic window up front and stick to it.
